Daylight & Sunlight
Consideration of the daylight, sunlight and overshadowing impact of a new development on neighbouring properties can determine the amount of massing available on a site. Equally, designing for good natural light within a proposed scheme is vital to ensure the proposed accommodation is of good quality. Daylight and Solar Design
The current drive for increased housing provision and the densification of urban environments, particularly across London and other big cities, presents a challenge in terms of balancing amenity within developments, for which daylight and solar design plays a critical role. PRE Chartered Surveyors' Daylight + Solar Design department has developed a series of bespoke services that support architects' and developers’ vision from massing, through planning, to detailed design specification, maximising value and optimising quality of amenity. Our advice is punctual, bespoke to each project and clearly presented through visuals and diagrams. The Daylight and Solar Design team offer a unique set of skills and resources, continually undertaking research in relevant fields to improve its services. The department also comprises a dedicated team to co-ordinate the preparation of ES Chapters on daylight and sunlight matters, from the early stages of scoping through to submission, working closely with environmental and planning consultants to deliver comprehensive reports.
