🚨 Industry Update: Fire & Building Safety Practice Alert from RICS

RICS has released a Practice Alert for all members currently or previously involved in fire and building safety work, including EWS1 inspections or reports.

As part of a wider commitment to maintaining high standards in this critical area, RICS now requires members to complete a regulatory return by 8 August 2025.

This move reflects growing concerns around:
▪️ Professionals operating outside their expertise
▪️ The potential misuse of credentials
▪️ The need for clearer oversight on high-risk work

We welcome this step forward in maintaining transparency, safety, and professional standards across the industry.

What you need to know:
✔️ If you’ve undertaken fire/building safety work since Dec 2019 – including EWS1 – a regulatory return is mandatory
✔️ Responses will shape future CPD requirements and support better record-keeping across the profession
✔️ Non-disclosure may be treated as a breach of RICS Rules of Conduct
